Purchased a Broken 1999 Grand Cherokee
Hi all im new here Just looking for some advice really so i can determine my next steps with this vehicle.
Ok here goes. I purchased a broken 1999 Grand Cherokee V8 4.7 engine today knowing it was broken but it was cheap.
Now to the issue. Got it home on a trailer no drammas unloaded cleaned it up. Needed a wash will look great once polished. Body work is quite good for the age. Interior is pretty spot on as well.
Now to the Engine. Upon inspection i noticed the radiator had no water/coolant in it so i said i will top it up. I kept filling and filling and filling the thing and i said to my self surely it cant take that much water?
But guess what it can. It goes straight into the sump lol.
Pulled the dipstick wouldnt you know it the sump was full so was the engine now.
Anyway prior to filling it the engine would not turn over. I thought with 198k on the clock the engine cant be stuffed i thought it may have been the starter motor. "Wrong". It was seized.
Dumped the oil / water from the sump and thought i would put a shifter on it to try and turn it one way or the other very little movement. Its stuffed.
Now going back to body, interior condition (Not sure about trans and diffs if they are ok) im assuming they are ok since the motor has been cooked. Would it be viable to repair existing engine or throw another in it?
Not sure about costs i have seen the remanufactured engines but 5k for one is a killer.
The vehicle is too good to wreck.
I could always resell it and recoup my dollars since i bought it cheap enough.
Any advice anyone could provide would be appreciated.
