If my power windows move slower in the cold, is that a sign that the motor is tired or does the track and stuff need lubrication. I think I already know the answer to this, but I'm just hoping it's a simple fix, lol! Never happen with a jeep, right?

It does move faster with the engine running, so I'm thinking higher voltage, right? Of course, it's the driver's window!

Hi moving faster with engine running is totally normal. In my experience the main source of stuck and move slow, are the sealing in the front and the back. in mine the lubrication only helped a little bit, but after adjusting the sealing it moves like a champ. Normally the motor should die when it burns down, or the brushes or the commutator fails in it, but if the bearings aren't stuck, it shouldn't move slower than normal.

I was wondering about that. My weatherstrip on the door panel seems to roll over whenever the window goes down and it has pushed loose the top edge of the panel. I think the only reason for that strip is without the old style rain gutters, water seems to run down the inside of the glass if the window is open the slightest bit. I put the vent shades on mine so I can have the window open about 1 to 2 inches before the water drips on my pants so I guess I could trim that weatherstrip some to eliminate the binding. If that doesn't do it, I'll take it off entirely. Another reason for the binding may be the smoke film on the glass from my cigarettes.

Maybe removing it isn't such a good idea. I think it stabilizes the glass in the track so it doesn't rattle.

I don't think you should remove any of the sealing, on the old cars (30+ years) I have/had the doors were rusted badly because the leaking window sealing. Maybe you could try to lubricate the inside of the back and front sealing, it wouldn't be visible on the window, and could help a lot to the motor. Cigarette smoke is a funny thing, I cant see the film on my windows, but always get surprised on the color of the water, when I wash it.

I do a lot of night driving because I deliver newspapers. I have to wash my windshield on the inside quite often and my paper towels are always brown. I don't think about the side window much because it's always down doing my route (even in sub-zero weather). Another thing I've found. When it's REALLY cold, I have to leave the window just off the top seal or it will freeze in the channel and won't open until the car warms up.

What would you use on the strips, a dry silicone spray?

Yes that can do the trick, just be careful not to spray it on the window, some types of silicon can turn car window to opal.

Yes, but that was the old laminated safety glass. Today's cars use tempered glass in the side windows.

I think you are right, but from time to time I read in different articles, saying don't use silicone on or near the window. Maybe just a bad habit from the past. Anyway if the car sleeps outside in winter I would use some silicone on the door sealing also, prevent breaking when frozen to the door.

I use Pam cooking spray. If it gets on your clothes, it washes right out.

The only garage my jeep ever sees is my mechanic's service bay. My garage is double-deep but was built for a Ford model A. It came with a board and gravel floor, a sofa, and a wood stove in it though. There's even an old well-head in the floor. The well is 108 ft deep but only has 6" of water in it.

BTW, I really like the lights on the front of your jeep. They look like railroad headlamps, like you could burn the paint off the guy in front of you!

Thanks, yeah it's connected to the high beam, with a relay and I can tell it's really bright. 2x 100W H4. I often check the built threads also, and some guys say they have overheating problems because the winch, but I haven't noticed anything, although the lights are bigger than that. BTW I wondered why are no ZJ builds posted, XY is so much better on off road?

No, they are just more popular to off-road fanatics. The only major difference between them is XJs use rear leaf springs and ZJs use coils. Also, XJ Classics are 2 door which are shorter and lighter. They weigh 3,386 lbs curb weight where my WJ weighs 3970 lbs.
