I have a 98 zj 4.0L 6cyl and when i go to start her up I have to either crank on it for about 7-10 sec or crank for 3-5 then pause a sec and crank again. With either of these she does start and runs. When she does start its rough at first for about 1 min but then settles out. Runs great after that. I have replaced plugs and wires. I have done research and it sounds like she is loosing her prime. I was advised to change the fuel pump and screen but am hoping to avoid dropping the tank even though it seems simple enough but a new pump and screen is between $125-$160. Any thing else I can look at guys? Thanks in advance.

my firebird used todo that. and i had replaced the fuel pump with a racing one and a screen. never figured out why it did but it would always run regardless so i was fine with it.

Almost sounds like its the fuel check valve. You will most likely have to drop the tank to solve your issue, sorry.
