Plastic JEEP Emblems
2000 WJ - New to me. It has those "4x4" plastic , fake chrome emblems on the sides and the "JEEP" one on the hood. The fake chrome is peeling off. I see you can buy replacements . My question is how to get the old ones off without messing up the paint job. I thought of just re-painting them with something like silver nail polish or something. Not really a "tech" question, but I figure somebody here might know.

Fishing line. Work it behind the emblem and saw through the adhesive with the fishing line.

I Will Answer My Own Question
I found jgcparts.com
They have the new emblems and a video showing how to remove and replace them. |
Some guys have used Plastidip to restore them. It goes on with a spray can and is a snap to trim, and peels off if you don't like it. Plus, you can buy it in any color you want. Just go to plastidip.com to find out more. They've even done the lower side trim and bumper covers with it.

Thanks For The Tip
I looked at the website and see that that have a leather repair product. I have small "wear creases" on the side of the drives seat in the leather. They are small tears that will get worse over time. I am going to give it a try to keep them from worsening.

Yeah, you can see from my signature I own a 00' WJ and because of the design of the seats, the outside bolster tends to deteriorate because of getting in and out, putting weight on it. I like the old ZJ seats better. I'm actually thinking about replacing them WITH ZJ seats because of my physic. I'm heavy with short legs. I actually pinched a nerve in my right hip from riding up on frozen snowbanks trying to deliver newspapers. I never had this problem with my ZJ.

I was just on the jgcparts.com website linked above, but it seems more Grand Cherokee related.
Does anyone know if the local dealership would have or can order OEM 2001 XJ "JEEP" logo for the front of the vehicle? The chrome on mine is peeling and I would like to get a new emblem. If someone has the part number, it would be much appreciated. Thank you, Squelchtone |

Thank you, Squelchtone In case this helps anyone else, I went to ebay and tried to save by buying some import Jeep emblem lettering, turns out it was like 1/4 inch thick and would not flex when glued to the front of the Jeep, so that was a waste of $10 bucks, then I ran across this Grand Cherokee emblem page which lists all the Mopar part numbers for each color of emblem (silver, chrome, gold, camel metallic, etc) *click the pics for large size to compare against your trim: http://www.wjjeeps.com/nameplates.htm from the above page: "Jeep" decal / emblem 5EM89SA1 (Silver) 5EM89SY1 (Gold) 5EM89WKK (Camel, light) 55156555AE (superseded from 55155623AB) (Chrome) 5JN00CA1AA (Radiant Silver) Then head to ebay with the part numbers, and sort by Cheapest to Most Expensive. I managed to find one company, Quirk Parts, who funny enough I actually bought stuff from before, that had all the emblems I needed and for cheaper than my local Jeep dealership who I called this morning and they wanted $57 for the front Jeep emblem and had 10 in stock in the Boston warehouse. I got the Jeep emblems (front and tailgate) for $42 each part in chrome finish: 55155622AB www.ebay.com/itm/190587369502 and the side 4x4 emblems for $35 each part in chrome finish: 55156555AE www.ebay.com/itm/200636478923 *I know I know, I could go to a junk yard and peel them off a junked XJ for free, but didn't want used beat up ones like I already have, really wanted new ones. will post before and after pics to this thread soon as the emblems arrive. Hope this info helps someone out Squelchtone |
