Default Pcv valve

I think mine is bad, it's an 04 overland with 178,000 miles. The valve is supposed to have no suction when the engine is idling correct? Mine has a lot of suction.

I see it, how do I tell if it's bad?

Remove it, and shake it. If it rattles freely it's good. That's the test I've always heard/used. There may be a better way, I don't know.

The PCV valve has a plunger balanced on two springs. They are designed to flow air at specific rates at specific vacuum settings and just about impossible to test. If in question, replace it. It can effect idle quality and fuel mileage. It's relatively cheap.

Take it from a guy who used to think "if it rattles, it's OK". It probably isn't.

My idol has been acting funny lately, the thing for a while would vibrate bad and have a rattling sound, but that stopped. So I'm going to buy a new one today
