Default Overheating; Maybe???

I am a noob! So sorry! I tried to search.

98 Grand w/ the 4.0.

Right now in Omaha temps outside are 100 degrees. With the AC on the temp. starts to go past the half way point (210 on the gages). Is this normal? It really only happens in stop and go. But I want to be able to just leave it running and not have to worry about the engine temp.

Any ideas, things to check???

Thanks,
RON

My Jeep is the same as yours; 98 w/4.0. With the AC on, I see the temp creep up just slightly past half way. W/O AC, I'm dead on the middle. I don't think this is a problem, as the AC will cause some temp bump.

210F is the normal operating temp. With the A/c on the engine will get warmer.. Just dont let it go beyond 225F IMO, more heat = more wear on the engine. Turn the A/c off and open the windows if it gets to hot so it can cooldown.

My engine does that too with the pretty much 98f weather in VA if i have the car parked and the a/c is on it will get to 220f. I think you are just being paranoid, dont worry about it and as i said if it gets to hot turn the A/c off.

Oh I am paranoid when it comes to my vehicles. I am trying to get to the root of the problem.

I understand your wanting to fix this, but I really don't think it is a problem. If you're worried about it that much, you could flush and fill the fluid, but as long as it's not creeping any higher, it's normal IMO.

210* is normal for that jeep and during stop and go it's okay if it gets a little hotter as long as it goes down after you get up to speed

There is no problem.. All vehicles do this in the hot weather when the a/c has been on for awhile.. Even my 2004 mitsubishi endeavor does this.
