2002 4.7 overland. Overheating when slow driving and at stops. Fan is coming. No signs of any leaks. Oil and water is good. Thought it could be water pump so changed it and took out the thermostate in case it was playing up. New thermo should be here tomorrow.
Ok now the jeep isn't heating up as much. When at a stop after a few minutes temp rises to about 3 1/4 mark and quickly drops to normal when fan kicks in. Fan is running constantly now on max, running so fast it's loud as hell. I don't think the fan should be runing so hard constantly? Is it because it's running so hard that's it's stopping an overheat and hiding a problem?

Check your coolant level, you might have a blown head gasket. My 2000 Durango was doing the exact same thing and I was losing about 2 quarts of coolant over a 2 week period of regular driving. The gasket between cylinders 1 and 3 has let go and I was getting coolant into the cylinders.
