Ooooo sound after switching back to 2wd from 4wd....
So it's snowing and slushy outside and I had to use the 4wd to get around during the worst of the recent NE blast this past week.
My 4wd works just fine, but I usually use my 2wd to drive around. Yes, I do use my 4wd on occasion for usage sake.
Anyhoo, I put the jeep in 4wd, drive it around for a few minutes. Then at a stoplight switch it back to 2wd cause the roads were better for driving this time around. When I switched back to the 2wd, I heard a weird 'ooooo' as I got above 10mph. And the jeep seemed to be sluggish while trying to accelerate.
I stop at the my grocery store to get some things which took about 10 minutes. and when I started up the jeep and drove it, it drove just fine and the 'oooooo' sound wasn't there. Acceleration was back to normal as well.
All fluids are where they should be, the tranny, engine oil, and transfer case. Yes, the differential oils are good too. None smell burnt and look as they should.
What gives? Maybe it's just that cold out but that would be too simple.
The 'oooooo' sound is just like saying "Moo" without the 'M'.

Old fart with a wrench
If you transfer linkage is slightly out of adjustment, the shift fork in the case may be still rubbing the 4WD shift drum. Try shifting into 2WD forcefully, as in slamming the shifted forward as far as it will go. I had mine pop out of 2WD because I didn't shift it hard enough.
And remember DON'T use part-time on dry pavement!
