Oil pressure help needed ASAP !
I have a 2001 Grand Cheroke with the I6..... How much oil pressure should I have at idle? If mine is low, what are possible reasons for it? At idle my gauge is reading about 5 ????
Thanks in advance.

a key reference is u need 10 psi to every 1k rpms. So yes its low. Umm take your oil pressure sending unit off and run a pipe cleaner through it.

my gauge reads 40 psi at fully-warmed up idle. Is this bad? I just had an oil change too with a new oil filter and it still reads this.

First I would check it with a real gauge to make sure the sending unit is working. If it is low quite often sign that main bearings are bad as worse case.

Again, Clean the oil pressure sending unit hole. and change your oil more frequently.
Like others say it is probably a faulty oil pressure sending unit. but with it being at 40 today, I would say sludge could be the issue. so replace the sender when you clean the hole with pipe cleaner.

What is the best oil to use for my 2001 GC.... I just bought it a few months ago and will be doing the oil change this Friday. I will be using a WIX oil filter ( 51085 )

Mine runs 3-5 at hot idle 650rpm.....no knocks and runs like new....after alot of fear I have come to accept it until I hear a knock. Mine was verified with a real gauge. That check gauge chime is annoying!
