O/D and over temp Light on 99 wj L6 42re transmission
Technical data
1999 wj
L6 4.0 from a 2004
42re transmission
So I bought a junkyard transmission. I know it's not the best choice but financially was my only choice.
So we replaced the transmission on our 1999 wj with a transmission from a 2001/2002 when the Overdrive light an the trans over temp light came on after the install. The installed new filter an oil pan cause oil pan on the junkyard was crushed. Also installed an aftermarket Hayden medium duty Trans cooler.
After all of this the lights are still on.
Please if anyone has any information on what could be causing this issue to continue.

Old fart with a wrench
There is a temperature sensor on the bottom of the valve body that senses fluid temp and will not allow the trans to shift into 4th gear if the temp of the fluid is under 32*F or over 260*F. It's just a variable resistor and was probably crushed with the pan and filter.

It's part of the torque converter clutch/overdrive solenoid pack. I've just been looking and I can't find it separately. Maybe you can steal the one out of your old trans if you haven't returned it as a core yet.
