Default Np231-j questions

So I have Dana 44 front with warns hubs and Ford 9" rear running 4.88 gears. My 94 grand has a V8 so it runs with the options "4wd all the time" or "4wd low".
My question is that when I'm driving in "4wd all the time" my front drive shaft doesn't spin. But when I put it in 4low it spins. What's going on here? The transfer case is a NP231 J running 272.

I think your rig had an NP249 originaly and was swapped with an NP231, a better transfercase anyway. The bezel around the shifter was probibly not changed after the swap. Do you have locking hubs on the front?

My question is why is the front driveshaft only spinning in 4low?

4 hi (in the AWD 249) only sends power to the front wheels when it needs it. In low it has a 30/70 split,30% power to the front and 70% to the rear. Np 231 has low-lock which gives a 50-50 split in low. If you are in 4 part time then it acts the same as the 249 in 4-high ( only applies front power when necassary).

Also, 4 part time in the 231 does NOT act like the 4 fulltime (249 doesnt have 4hi), the 231 is locked 50/50 in both 4hi and 4lo

OK...OK so now I'm retarded. LOL I'm looking down at the 4x4 shifter and saying to myself "Wtf?".....then it hits me......I'm thinking the 231 has only awd and 4low! Just cuz I'm looking at the shifter. So I remember from my zj 4.0 had the 2wd then neutral then 4hi then 4low. So I turn the Jeep on and what do you know f me if the damn thing has 4 positions! Geese sorry for the mix up everybody!
