Hi I'm new here and I have a question. I have a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee with a quadra drive 4x4 with a NV247 transfer case. I have 4 low but no 4 hi.. I have changed the oil in the transfer case but still it doesn't work. any ideas. thanks

I have a 2000 GC with same exact issue, did you find anything out? cant seem to find any answers. I guess it must be a rare problem

The symptoms you describe are commonly caused by the 'progressive coupler'. Located inside the transfer case.
I believe the only way to fix it is to replace the coupler.

ok thanks, do you know if its repairable in vehicle by pulling tail off or is it more internal and transfer case needs pulled? dealer only part?

Not a dealer part and I'm unsure of the requirements to replace it.

The case has to come out and split to change the coupler. And it is expensive. So much so that guys seriously consider installing the 242 case instead. Your choice.

Thanks for clarifying.
I recall many posts and write-ups regarding switching out the 247 and 249 to the 242 Select-Trac. Look for results from the jeep forums when searching.
I have the 242 in my XJ. It's actually a remanufactured one with HD chain from a Grand Cherokee, only problem is the 'shift indicator light' is out of sequence. Can't figure out how to fix it.
