NP 231 in my 95 ZJ V8?
I have a 95 ZJ with a 5.2 V8. It has the NP 249 all-time t-case. Will a NP 231 mate to my tranny? And if so with how much hassle? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 249 electronic? Not sure. I just don't like the idea of the "all-time" and I'm a true fan of the 231. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

As long as it has the same spline count and same input length you should be fine. I did the same swap in a 93 ZJ and used the same drive shafts. You may need to swap the shifter, I didn't and it works fine but I've heard it works better if you do. Just FYI I got my case out of a 93 XJ for the swap. Anything after 90 should have 23 splines but you have 3 different lengths so be prepared to break out the measuring tape.

So this pretty much a bolt-in job as long as I get the correct length? I'll do a write-up on it when I get it going cause I'm also going to do a homebrew SYE and driveline conversion. Thanks for the info. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Also I'll be doing a 2" BB and atempting to tuck my 32/11.5 Mud Rovers on there. Any opinions?

Check this link out, its helped me alot. Im doing the same swap. Im going from the NP 249 to the NP 242, which is like the NP 231 but it has two different 4 wheel drive settering, part-time and full-time. Try and find a T-case out of a grand cherokee or you will have to swap the input gear. Anyways hope the link helps.
