Now I Really don't know what to do
I posted this on her about a day ago, and everything that was suggested I have done, but my Jeep still is a dead stick. This is what has happened up till now. When I put the key in and turn it to the start position none of the gages come on and the jeep won't start. Typically after a few minutes of leaving the key in the start position the gages will turn on and then I can start the jeep with a few pumps of the gas pedal. Anyway, it was suggested to change the ignition switch, so I've done that, but there still no power going through my jeep. Also, it was suggested to change the starter relay, so I just changed that and I still don't have any power. If anyone can assist me, I'm out of ideas, and I need my jeep. By the way it's a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited w/V8 engine. Thank you.

is this ob2 or obd1? look at the data link connector under the driver side dash if its anlged on the end then you can hook a scan tool and pull some codes, sounds like the computer ploblem or maybe a instrument cluster issue?

Check it to see if any codes are stored. Here's how. >-> Jeep Horizons :: View topic - Jeep Computer codes (OBDI & OBDII)

Okay so I hooked the code scanner up to the Jeep to get some codes. However, it is just telling me that there is a operating error, and it's not reading anything from the computer. Does this mean that the computer is dead?

There's something wrong in the wiring. Check the connectors on the lower steering column near the pedals and make sure they're not corroded or burnt.

Checked them and they are not corroded or burnt. Would it make a difference that when I turn the key to the start position that there is no power going into anything. I connected the code scanner to my van and it gave me the same error message until I turn the key to the start position. Then it gave me a code. The other thing is when I was able to start the jeep before I would hear like a grinding noise coming from the glove box area. I always thought it was just the blower motor, but when it would come on then the ABS light would flash at me and the overdrive would automatically turn on and off among other things. Any thoughts?

When you turn the key to the run, not start, position do the dash lights come on at all? If so, try getting codes using the key method I mentioned earlier. I don't have a clue what kind of electrical short/issue you might be having.

I'm assuming that you checked all the fuses. Disconnect the battery and then check the power lug on the fuse box. You may even have to remove the mounting bolts on the fuse box(under the hood) and flip it over to gain access to the wiring under it. Look for corroaded ends and frayed connections. If you have a multi-meter (if not borrow one) After you have verified your fuse box integrity , and repaired any issues......put everything back together. Reconnect the battery and verify with the meter that you have battery voltage at the fuse box, then turn the key to run and check that the fuses have power using the meter not the test light. If any fuse shows less than battery voltage check that system in the wiring for frayed or corroaded wires. PM me if you run into any trouble checking these things out. Will help ya out where I can......Russ

Okay so I don't have a multi-meter, and neither does any of my car friends, and I'm out of money for this week. So, I did the next best thing I hope. Anyway, I have a positive/negative voltage tester that gives you a red light for positive energy and green for negative energy, and I tested the fuses in the PCM, and the wiring. All that's showing up is the positive LED (red). Does this help? As far as I can tell it appears that the positive energy is flowing through the PCM. Any thoughts?
