Noisey Drive Train
My 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo has developed a whine from somewhere in the drive train. It is audible at 50mph and greater. The sound doesn't get greater at higher speeds. I don't think it's the engine. Anyone have this type of problem?

Yep...I've got a noisy one too. I checked out underneath and found my one of my issues; the pinion bearing and seal on the rear diff are SHOT. I can wiggle the driveshaft about a 1/4" side to side. If I park on down hill, my diff fluid dribbles out. So I make it point to always park uphill til I can get it fixed. I have to top off the diff almost every month, using 75W140...nice and thick stuff, it stays in the diff longer.
Yeah, I know this not a safe thing to do and do not recommend driving in this condition, but I don't have the $900 to have the axle swapped out yet. Someday soon....

I got the same problem in mine but something finally gave up the other day in there. I have been trying to figure what would be best to do and my suggestion to you would be to replace the whole rear axel with a decent one at the junkyard ! way cheaper I can get mine for 80 $. Hopefully that helps.
