93 ZJ with 46rh transmission. Will not go into overdrive and occasionally the light will come on on the switch. I have tried to retrieve engine codes but none appear. Otherwise it works fine. New to site please help!

tranny is not going to throw any engine codes on a 93, it is OBD1, very limited diagnostic. Probably should get a service manual for it or take it to a good tranny guy

Thanks tsconver I think I included it won't throw any codes and anyone can tell me to take it to a trannyshop. I have and immediately they tell me they are going to have to tear it down and do a complete rebuild. I am hoping it is something simpler and someone out there has had a similar situation they have learned from. And yes I have checked the adjustment on the cable and all the electrical connections.

It is fairily common for a 46rh to not go into OD. It did the same thing for a while when I had my dakota. Flush your trans, and see if that helps. That is what I did and the problem went away

Thanks Metmknice, Did you refill it with standard Mercon III or factory Mopar trans fluid? I have read some of the Chrysler transmissions react differently when generic fluid is used.

From everything I have tried to find out it could be the solenoid-vss sensor-coolant sensor(these transmissions will not go into overdrive or lock up the torque converter until the proper temperature is reached) and one person had his rebuilt three times until they fially replaced the valve body finding a very small hairline crack in a passage.
Please eep me posted as to your progress, i'm right behind you with the fluid flush and mopar fluid.
