Default no oil pressure, check gauges, tapping noise

Hello guys and gals, I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with the 4.0 straight 6 motor in it and my wife was driving down the road and the motor stalled on her after about 2 to 3 minutes, she said she was able to get it started back and came back to the house but the oil pressure gauge was all the way down and the check gauges light came on as well as the check engine light, along with that was a horrible tapping noise coming out of the motor. There was no prior indication of a problem, the jeep ran perfect. I started the jeep to try to figure out what was wrong and couldnt figure anything out without tearing into it. I had the jeep running about 2-3 minutes looking around for anything I could find. The jeep has set for about a month because we have been ultra busy and now it wont start..it turns over fine and every once in a while sputters like its about to get going and then stops. I dont know what could be the issue here, what should I check for? I have changed the oil filter because I thought maybe the filter collapsed and clogged the passage, but still nothing. Please help!

Take the oil filter off. Cut it open and pull the insides out. If you find Alot of metal shavings you'll know if it toast.

Whatever you do... Just diagnose the problem, do NOT put a lot of money into this... It sounds like its toast to be honest... Drain the oil and see whats in it... cut the filter as mentioned above.. see whats in that..

no oil pressure plus tapping is usually no bueno

let us know what you find.
