Newbi need help with 4Low
Just purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The one I have is a 5.7L HEMI. Why such a big thing, easy I have to pull 2 horses with it. And love it. Anyway today I decided to try out the 4 Low on it on pavement (in drive way) while reading the manual. PA snow MIGHT be deep this winter. Anyway, if you have the manual it states how to go from 4 Hi to 4 Lo, which I understand and then from 4 Lo to 4 Hi. This can be found on page 242 and 243. However, on page 243 there is another thing that I don't understand and can't figure out when to do it or not. It's title Neutral (N) Shift Procedure. 1. Key ON, engine off. 2. Vehicle stopped, with foot on brake. 3. Place transmission in N (Neutral). 4. Hold down N (Neutral) "pin" switch (with a pen, etc.) for 4 seconds until LED lamp by the switch starts to blink indicating shift in progress. Lamp will stop blinking (stay on solid) when Neutral shift is complete. A "4WD SYSTEM IN NEUTRAL" message will display on the EVIC. Okay when do I do this? Before going down to 4Low? Is there a safety procedures that will help a newbie not to tear up the TC or transmission or engine?
