Default Which Neutral Safety Switch?

i have a 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited v8. i bought the nss from advanced auto parts but i tried to install it myself but cant find the nss on the trans. i used a diy with pics but cant located it. i know theres 2versions. i bought the screw in plug looking one but i think imay need the other one.

how can i tell which 1 i need??

Pretty sure it's the three terminal screw in type located on the left side of the transmission about an inch and a half from the rear corner of the pan. Make sure to jack the left side of the Jeep up to keep the fluid loss to a minimum.

I think you should have the 545RFE trans, maybe the 45RFE. Either one you have will be the same basic part. That part is basically the trans solenoid pack assy. It is inside the pan and the valve body will need to be removed. A better description for the sensor is the "transmission range sensor"

Without knowing your level of ability, you will at least probably want a manual that has this repair in it with details. The job is not really that bad if you have the instructions and specs. Torque specs on the bolts are fairly crtical and the solenoid pack spec is 50 in/lbs, valve body is 106 in/lbs. The in/lb torque wrench is the only special tool needed.

I have seen this part alone cost around $180-$350, you should also replace filters/fluids.
