Need some Info on Steering
My Jeep is a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited and the question I have is that when you make a sharp turn to the left or right or even when you back up it sounds like it is trying to grab the road to hard. It is always in 4wheel
and you have to give it the gas to get it to move and then some times the tires squeal. I was told by someone that this is normal because of it always being in 4wheel. |
If you are talking about full time 4 wheel, there is supposed to be a fluid coupling to allow it to not do what you are describing. You aren't driving around in 4LOCK are you? If in fill time, an it does this yo probably need a new fluid coupling in the transfer case.

There is no 4wheel lock on this. It says always in 4wheel all i have is a hi and low.
so yes it is always in 4wheels the transfer case that is in mine is Quadra-Trac ll this is a AWD system |
Can you give me some more info on this fluid coupling because i have the alldatadiy program and can't find anything on this for my jeep at all.

It is a gizmo about the size of a large fist that acts like a set of spider gears in a differential but has some resistance in it, sort of like a positrac. when they wear out, they start to get stiff and act more like they are locked. They are somewhat expensive to replace since the transfer case must be disassembled.

Yes,you have the 249 AWD case and no,thats not normal. Tires grabbing when turning sharp means failing vicious coupler which means time for a new/rebuilt t-case.

I was told by a service guy that owns is own shop that he has a 94 did the same thing and he rebuilt his and after a year it started doing the same thing and not to worry about it also went to the deal and the service tech told me not to worry about it that it is normal for them to do that.
Now i am at a lost LOL |
I have a update about this.
Last night i was in a parking lot and when i made a sharp turn out of it, it was doing the same thing now this morning i left with it and made some turns and noties that it is not doing it now. is this something i should worry about or not also is there a way to find out if your front wheels are pulling without having to find hills or something like that to check them. |
