the cheapest way to lift a ZJ is by buying some lift coils for the front and putting the stock front coil springs in the rear. a front to rear lift will give 3-4 inches of lift. if you install longer shocks on a stock height vehical they won't be riding at mid stroke and most likely bottom out causeing damage to the shock.

in a ZJ if it's not the V-8 it'll be an I-6 4.0L not a V-6. my ZJ had a U-joints not the CV axles and driveline

like already stated, get a set of 3.5 lift coils put them up front and the front springs in the rear, ive done this on mine and will be doing it when i get back to MD at the end of the month on my other ZJ, if you/your buddy needs a hand let me know im always up to help out a fellow jeeper. but i would do the F>R swap and then throw the shocks on. or a quick lift would be F>R and then 2 in spacers. im debating on whether to do that to mine or not
