I have a problem with my air conditioning. The button that you push in to make the air conditioning work, will not stay on. The fan and the temp ***** work fine, but the button does not stay lit showing the airconditioning is on. You have to keep pressure on it for the air conditioning to stay on. Any ideas on what could be the problem. I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 6 cylinder, 2wd.

Could be as simple as a bad switch by the sound of it. I had a similar problem with my windshield washer button. Try a local auto store or junkyard. It's a pretty simple swap.

Welcome to CF.
As stated, the button needs to be replaced. If you can't find it any where else, you can probably still get it at the dealer.

People always jump to that conclusion.
I've bought parts from the dealers for different vehicles in the past, and the price was very reasonable. Specially when most of those parts couldn't be found anywhere else in decent condition.

Well then you're luckier than me. Last time I called the dealership for a transfer case part they wanted over $400 for the main shaft and planetary gear assembly of a np242. I bought a mopar rebuilt complete t case for $150. But I must concede, every situation is different, I just usually see higher prices.

Exactly. Sometimes parts are cheaper at the dealer than buying aftermarket china crap from vatozone. You just have to know what parts to get from where.

OP, other than a salvage yard you are probably stuck with the dealer, which these are usually a couple $$hundred and up. The A/C switch is basically a 2 pole toggle switch. You could rig up an auxillary toggle switch if you wanted. Might even jamb a tooth pick into the corner of the switch or something else to hold it in for a temp fix.
