Default My Overland is overheating!!

Hi,

Can anyone advice please. I just bought a brand new Grand Cherokee Overland 2011. I was highway driving when the engine heat suddenly went up!! I stopped and opened the hood and found one of the hoses was unplugged and radiator water was all over the engine. Went to the dealer and the did fix it, they said the clips was broken and we had to change it. However, the heat still not stand still, it goes up and comes down.

Is this common with Grand Cherokee or I did bought a broken vehicle??

!!!WARRANTY!!!

Not to be a smarty pants, but take it to the dealership, it is still under warranty. They will fix whatever defect that the vehicle has, provided that it was not owner induced.

^yup that your best bet.

you gotta tell the dealership that you know the temp gauge shouldn't be fluctuating at much as it does. when your temp gauge does that it suggests that there is something wrong in the cooling system possibly the thermostat. you might have to a little bit with them but if its brand new they should take care of it.

I messed with one of those 3.6l yesterday in the shop. Holy Crap, the most horrible thing ever to work on. I used more computer than wrenches on it. I hated it

Sounds like there is an are bubble in the system. Its a brand new engine so the techs at the dealer are still learning its service quirks. If they figure out the gauge issue I would not lose any sleep over it. Occasional assembly goofs like that are not unusual-thats what the warrenty is for.

I did have a question about the new Grands; and this may sound dumb-it is-is the battery under the right front seat? I know the platform is shared with the Mercedes ML (to far along at the divorce) suv and I had to put a battery in one last week. Dumb Germans put the thing under the front seat .

As frustrating as it is to work on with the battery in that location, it does serve a purpose. It tends to balance out the vehicle at high speed. It's all about Center of Balance and Center of Gravity. Driver on the left, battery on the right = high speed stability on the Autobahn. I was stationed there for 7 years, mine eyes have seen the glory of the Autobahn.

But i digress

I took it back to the dealership and they have told me that I do not have to worry about (it is normal).

I never been a Jeep owner before coz of this Im asking is it normal to have heat up and down??

Honestly, no it's not normal. Something is not right, like the dealership telling you not to worry about it. Something wrong with that.

I'd take it back and ask them to fix the problem the right way. If they don't, let them know you'll be making a visit to the BBB.
