My NEW Grand Cherokee has NO OIL!?
 
I have wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee since I don't remember when. Just last month a finally got a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and I have been walking on air ever since.

A few days ago I noticed a tapping in the engine. I thought to my myself "that's odd" especially since I have only 800 miles on it. It has gotten noticeable worse so I decided to check the fluids. I pulled out the oil dipstick and it was bone dry! From the way it sounds I'm sure there are already bearings that have cracked.

I called the dealership and explained the situation. They said that they would "make it right", but have not heard back from them.

I am in PA. It's been about 23 days since I bought it. Do you guys have any advice?

Document everything. And do not touch it!!!!!!!!!!! Let it sit Til you make a warranty claim with the dealer.

I don't want to file a warranty claim. I want a whole new Jeep. This one has engine damage I am sure.

The only option you have is warranty claim,They won't give you a new jeep over that they will just replace the engine in it.And they will take the engine apart to make sure the problem with it was jeeps fault.

I know what's going to happen and you're not going to want to hear this. They are going to tell you that maintaining the fluid levels is your responsibility and there's no way that engine could have lasted 800 miles without seizing if it had no oil in it from date of delivery.

We had a claim for a new engine when I worked at Valvoline. A guy with a brand new Chevy conversion van got an oil change with his whole family on board and said he was on his way to Canada via Buffalo for vacation. He got as far as Buffalo on the Thruway before the engine blew up. He had it towed to a Chevy dealership and they discovered there was no oil in it!

To make a long story short, Valvoline disavowed the claim because there was no way a Chevy 350 would have gotten 150 miles at 70 mph with no oil in it. All we knew was the oil pressure at startup was documented and signed for by the top-side technician and the customer viewed the dipstick. The filter was not leaking and the drain plug was tight.

I hope you DO get resolution from Jeep, but I don't feel confident.

I'm sorry, I couldn't tell from your post--is your GC at the dealership being diagnosed, or were you waiting to hear back from the dealership before you brought it in?

Honestly I would hire a lawyer to handle it. This was the result of negligence on the dealerships part. It either came from the factory transport that way or the dealership did some work prior to you picking up. they are supposed to pre check everything before delivery to a new customer.

like others said they will do everything to avoid giving new a jeep. they will ask jeep for a similar engine to reinstall, if jeep says no they will look for a junkyard motor.

i will spare you the details but i have an 07 wk hemi. got an oil where they didnt put the oil back in. i didnt make it a mile, total seize. jiffy lube did admit fault and pay $10k on a claim for a "like" motor. but that motor went bad after 6 months then i battled with the dealership to "make it right" due to a mistake on thier part with the used engine warranty.

long story short wish i hired a lawyer at the start. the whole thing still cost me $1,000 out of pocket on things everyone refused to cover. Not to mention the stress of me stopping by the dealer for 2 months fighting with them.

If they DO give you a new motor, you'll probably have to sign a "non- disclosure agreement" where you'll not be allowed to talk about it to anyone. This is illegal, but it's done all the time. If this happens, they'll tell you you can be sued for talking about it just to scare you into not doing so, but if they take you to court over it, they'll lose. FCA has done just this overseas, IDK about here.

BTW, just the mention of hiring a lawyer may get you more action. Scare tactics go both ways.
