I just bought a decent '05 at a good price from a used car guy who never touched it since the auction, runs and drives perfect, no signs of anything out of order. First tank mileage check is 8 mpg!! I see a thread here from 2012 where a guy with the same issue stumbled upon a solution by investigating the ABS warning light and the panel message "service electric brake system" (mine does both). He indicates finding a damaged ABS sensor on the left rear hub. He replaced the sensor, "reset the computer" and fuel mileage returned to normal. I see quite a few others with this extreme mileage drop but no other mention of this resolve. I would appreciate thoughts and suggestions

Thank you for the post.. Have you done a tune up on the Jeep yet? when was the last tune up? Plus have you scanned for OBDII codes to see if any codes pop up?

Not saying this is your issue,,but a bad o2 sensor can cause bad gas mileage.

How is the transmission? Low line pressure will do that. Drive it and park it, then go around and feel for a hot wheel....stuck caliper.
