Arrow multiple electronics failure

I just bought a 94 Grand Cherokee: inline 6 with 135k on it.
When I bought it the power windows, a/c, heat, radio and the little panel with the set and select buttons were all out of commission. But, I knew that they were all working before he tried to install a new radio.

I bought a repair manual and searched the web. After a couple of days I traced it to the I.O.D fuse. The fuse would blow as soon as I touched it to the connectors, so I disconnected the neg cable and removed the power distribution box and repaired the connectors (they were lose). After putting everything back together EVERYTHING WORKED PERFECTLY.

Then, today, I took it to the car wash. Now, I have ABS and airbag lights on, the little panel with select and set, the windows, the overhead control thing (I don't know what it is called yet) out.

After looking at wiring diagrams, it seems to lead back to the instrument panel and/or ignition switch.

Before I screw something up really badly, do you all think I'm barking up the wrong tree? Should I dig into the wires? Should I buy one of those computer diagnostic things? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Much,
Donald in Marietta, GA

Default STRANGE similar ELECTRICAL PROBLEM

Similar thing has just happened to my 2002 4.7 HO !
Was hoping to get the answer here my self! BUT have just had a Phone call that may help us both :-) (yet to go and check my jeep)

Just stopped to get some Fuel, jummped back in and noticed the start up tune in the dash just sounded different on turning ignition key!

It was a hot day and the air con was On ! But as i drove away the heat came out of the Dash Instead of refridgerated cold air? like Full Bore HOT Air, like it was 100 degrees in the car within minutes. NO Power getting to A/C Pump (could not here a/c clutch engage)

Also Non of the windows would go down No power to any of the switches,
Also the Radio controls on the steering wheel has stopped working.
(Luckily power to Sun roof was ok or i would have Fried)

Have a contact that works for jeep.
He said common fault !
Open drivers door fully, the wiring cluster that goes from the door into the side of the dash is probably were the fault is ! it should be a black wire that has broken in the wiring cluster.

So before I go and check my situation out thought best to give you the Tip also. Hope it sorts you problem out dude !
cheers

Have had my Jeep looked at by the auto electrician.
He did find a RED wire that was broken in the door wiring but unfortunately it has NOT fixed my Problem.
So would really be Brilliant if any one can offer any other solutions to
Our Problem (or place to look for the fault).
Thank You

Default Got It

I spent hours with the wiring diagrams and then chasing the circuit; about 20 by my estimation. I tore up the dash, the the fuse panel, instrument panel, power distribution unit and the Power Train Control Module. I was following the A2 circuit as that was the only one that touched all of those issues. Finally, I found a loose connection at the 100 way connector located in the right kick panel. That's the place I was looking for all along, but the diagrams made it seem as though the 100 way was with the instrument panel. So, I found it and pushed the wire back in and yeeeeha! It's all working.

There's still lots to do elsewhere; the headliner, parking break, heater core and driver's door sensor come to mind. But, I've had a great start.

That's good to hear. Keep us posted, or start a new thread for a different issue so you'll get more responses.
