Might be getting a cherokee
hey guys, im looking into a 97 grand cherokee 4x4, it has 158k, a 3 inch suspension lift kit, what i wanted to know is, what are common problems i should look out for when i meet the guy on monday, i will be trading my car (1990 nissan 300zx) for it.
i know i havent completely filled out my profile but im not sure if im getting it just yet, but i could use an idea what to keep an eye out for.
thanks.

v8 always breaking? I love my 94 with a 5.2. I dont think i would ever want to go witha 4.0. Sure the 4.0 are easier to work on, but as far as reliabilty, I think, in my opinon, they are about equal.

IMO Grand cherokee with ANY engine is better than a 300zx hahahahhahahaha. 300's are cool looking, but that's about it.
Just make sure the electrical works on everything, and there arent any major leaks anywhere. Looks like a clean GC.

For years people have been bashing the reliablity of Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees. I have seen more XJs and ZJs with over 200k on them and still running flawlessly. Most reliablity issues happen because of abuse and halfassed upgrades done by somebody that does not know what they are doing. But some years of the XJ are prone to failure (84-86 with the 2.8 v6) right out of the factory. The fleet of vehicles I maintain for my job has quite a few XJs in it, they have been the most reliable and most used vehicles that are in the fleet. The Rangers, and Durangos all have been more problematic than the older XJs. So what you are hearing can be said for almost any vehicle made, and rumors run like wild fire. Buy what you want and don't worry about what might happen, and don't keep expecting something bad to happen. Consumer Reports will never like any Jeep product, so take what they say with a grain of salt. Enjoy your Jeep for hundreds of thousands of miles.

If you've ever said "good enough for now" when doing a repair or upgrade, you just did a halfassed job. Learn as much as you can in your class, don't be the burnout in class making a bong out of an old distributor cap and vacuum hose.
