Looking into a ZJ
So after having to scrap out my XJ I have been searching for another Jeep. On a local 4x4 forum I keep getting drawn to 1 jeep. Its a 1993 V8 grand cherokee. now this is all I know about it from his thread, I have not gone to look at it in person yet...
318 v8 228k miles
Transmission has supposedly been rebuilt
dana 30/35 with 373 gears
np242 t case
rockers are starting to rust, some dents and dings
Has 4.5" lift needs shocks
dunno what size tires guessing 32"ish
windows wont go up (not sure why)
and has no back brakes (needs rotors, calipers, and pads)
1 small spot in the rear floor has been repaired, but otherwise everything is solid.
now he started at 1500 (or for 1700 he would throw in a rust free parts jeep)
last time I talked to him about it, he is willing to take 1000 (not sure how much with the parts jeep) because he needs things for his other truck.
So my questions are...
How reliable are these v8 grands? does it seem like a good deal? any ideas on why the windows wont go up? He just said he has not had the time to look into the window issure, so it could be as simple as a fuse..
please help this complete newbie to v8 grands...

I would stay away from it personally. If you are looking into getting a ZJ, try finding a 98 5.9L, they are a little more then the one you are looking at but well worth it.
With the window not going up, it could be the fuse or the window regulator. I've replaced mine on my 5.9L once already.
Also if he is saying the transmission "might have been rebuilt" and doesnt have paperwork for it, I wouldnt trust it. It sounds like a ZJ that you would end up putting more money into it to make it road worthy then actually enjoying it and building it up.

Sounds like a money pit. I would keep looking for something that has fewer problems and paper work to back up repair claims. $1500 is a bit steep for a mystery machine.

ive had my grand for two and a half years now and have nothing bad to say about it, even after supposedly hydrolocking it, it still runs decent. IMO v8 grands Kick a$$. but you might want to find something in a little bit better condition

I plan on finding something better... I want to be able to get in it and drive home.. not tow it home and sink more money into it
