Exclamation Locker woes

well I installed a locker on saturday and removed it and put my spiders back in last night. I'm waiting till I can get to the 4x shop and see if they will make good on the part they sell or I have to eat it. the install was easy, the locker was working till I hit the trail, then bang. it started poping and unlocking, then it wouldn't even stay engaged long enough to move the truck. I had to drive home in 4hi on the front axle with the rear banging and poping all the way. after pulling the diff cover, expecting to see chunks of metal, I can't see anything wrong with it. I pulled the cross pin and removed the POS. I think maybe the spings that keep the clutches engaged are too weak. once it "slipped" the first time it was all over. I'm going to be POed if they won't make things right.

brand new in a sealed box. I called Genuine Gear A.K.A. 4 wheel parts and they said they don't have a tech guy and I have to take it up with the shop I bought it from.

were any of the pins busted? that happens all the time which would allow the clutches to move freely? were the springs stretched at all?

Did you use thrust washers and check clearances when you installed it. If there is too much space between the two sides it won't look up.

I used the thrust washers from the spider gears. I've double checked the instructions to see if there was some step I missed but have found nothing. there is no specs for any kind of gap. where do you check it and what should it be? there is enough space between the clutches that both clutches can be released at the same time and the axles will turn freely. I've never set up a rear end, I've just done drop ins and axles. If there is a tolerance for the gap, would it be adjusted by adding thrust washers?

I can accept if I didn't install it correctly, if I can get it to work the way it should. I just wish they would have clarified how to properly install it instead of just telling you how to put it in the carrier.

What brand do you have and what axle? Aussie calls for 0.145-0.170" between the inside gears. Much more than that and it won't engage.

my ZJ has a Dana35 C-clip w/ ABS. the locker is a Genuine Gear Quick Lok. when you say between the inside gears, your referring to the clutches? I'll have to look at an Aussie to see if that would work on this. how did you adjust the gap?

well I took the locker back and received a full refund. I guess I'll just wait till I have the difference and order the powertrax. I can't seem to find negitive reviews about that one.

I will give 4 west two thumbs up though, the receipt said no refunds or exchanges if the part was installed and they took it back with out a fuss. that alone will make me do business with them again.

Don't know how much you can get the lock rite for but an Aussie is 240 bucks from the mfg. I've ran both and had a lot more luck from the Aussie. My lock rite springs wore out in less than 2 years and it would unload on hills. Ran the Aussies front and rear for almost 5 years and a buddy runs them now and they still work like new.
