Angry LCD in dash screen 1995 grand cherokee problem

Hi
Can anyone give an idea why every time I turn ignition on my LCD screen in the dash under the radio, reverts back to a date and time that needs to be reset and flashing.
every time I reset the date and time and turn ignition off I have to reset.....
very frustrating..
PS i just changed an alternator, could that have anything to do with the problem..

i think you have your red and yellow wires mixed up. can you turn it on without the key?

not on your alternator, I dont think that should have messed with anything, although i dont have a gc.Im talking about the wires on the radio. Is it the original or an aftermarket? does the radio turn on without the key?If it does then you have your red and yellow wires on your radio hooked up wrong. yellow should be a constant 12v for memory and the red should only be 12v when the ignition is on.

No its not the radio, the radio is seperate to the message center.
there is a led screen in the dash that gives you information, such as date ,time, when next service is due.etc, and that keeps flashing the date until i reset, beut when power is turned off ,I have to go through the resetting.
