Jack stands are usually on the leaf springs. Borrow an engine hoist. Be very careful. Lift it up. Relocate stands. Set it down. Don't do this alone.

Since when did a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee have leaf springs? You do know that you're in Grand Cherokee (ZJ/WJ/WK), correct?

Actually no. it's still in the Grand Cherokee Tech section.

I own an XJ myself, but am looking to get into a WJ (99-04 GC), so I frequent both sections.

my opinion is buy new shackles. 80 percent chance you wont get them out. bolts siezed in the bushings.give it a try and then cut them to get the springs out.some parts just dont pay to get used.they will probablly pick up the truck with a fork lift for you.bring a half inch drive long breaker bar and the right size socket.
better yet see if you can get the bolts out of your car first cause if you cant then its time to just bring it to a spring shop.

I have to agree with auto2. Also, this is why I asked what year you had, as I didn't know how GC's where (if they even had leaf springs, which they don't). I have a few buddies who work at the local jeep shops as well as I currently have a 96 XJ myself. I was told by my buddies that if I wanted to swap springs, soak the bolts for weeks as they have a habit of freezing up in the bushing and if we have to cut the perch/mounts off to get them out, it's a TON more work. With that being said, under conditions that happen in a garage, think of what can/could happen in a junkyard where conditions are slightly less favorable and the XJ may have been sitting outside, and not moving.
