intake
As I posted I replaced my muffler with a dynomax. Next comes headers and maby a new cat if my old one wont work. What is an affordable header that works good for jeep? I would want long tube, not a shorty as I am not wanting high RPM power. I don't want to blow the engine and really don't need high RPM's anyway with a jeep. It's not a dragster. Also a poster reccomended an intake from a 99 - 03 grand cherokee. I found one, but what would this do for me? It looks like a dual plenum design , so I'm thinking more low to mid range power. Am I right? I plan on buying the foundation series 3.5" kit from Iron Rock Offroad also ,it is proudly made in the USA. Any suggestions on making my own cold air intake? it seems even if I switch intakes everything will bolt up , including my throttle body and air intake. Another sight had some sort of turbine or fan blade to put in the air intake, claiming it disturbed air flow making a better fuel air mix for combustion. Sounds like it would hurt as much as it would help. I think it may have been on JC whitney, but I can't remember. As usual they promised so much of a percentage of power gain , knowing that consumers aren't going to be able to dyno their engine and find out.

I did the intake swap on my 95. I noticed more power all through the RPM range and it pulls harder longer. Well worth the time and effort. More power, but no decrease in fuel mileage. On a 95 and older you have to replace the power steering pump, brackets, and pulley to a 96 and newer setup and reroute the belt to the newer setup. You will have to modify a few vacuum hose locations and tweak the fuel line bracket a little, but no big deal. use a new gasket and make sure the manifold is seated on the alignment pins before torquing the bolts to 24lbft. The lower center bolts will be a pain to get to with the new manifold, swivle sockets will make it easier.
While you have the intake off, it's a good time to replace the crank sensor. it will be easier to get to with the intake out of the way.
I also installed 703 injectors and moved the intake air temp sensor to the air cleaner lid. Your throttle body will bolt right on, and the fuel rail and throttle cable bracket will bolt on with no modifications needed.
Those intake turbine things are a waste of money and do more harm than good.

I agree with Bustedback about the turbines. They were okay with carbeurators or TBI. The idea was to break up fuel droplets before they were injested by the engine. The idea was good, yet really didn't work well in practice.
