Idler pulley replacement for 1996 4.0 ZJ w/ AC?
So my idler pulley exploded today on the way to work. Looking to get a new one by tomorrow, but was hoping to get some help before buying.
My parts catalog lists two idler pulleys for the vehicle, an upper and lower one. I'm guessing this refers to the idler pulley on the left (between the AC, alternator, and fan pulleys) and the one on the right, which is used for tensioning. I'm trying to replace that one on the left, and this is the best I've come up with. It mentions being used in the place of the tensioner pulley though, so I'm not sure. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-419-602-Idler-Pulley/dp/B003SZ3GK0/ Any thoughts? Pretty sure this will work, but really want to get it running tomorrow so I wasn't to be sure. |
That one worked out well. Comes with the pulley and sleeve, so all you need to reuse is the bolt.
Sooo much quieter now. There used to be some noise that increased with engine speed that I though was the AC compressor. Glad it was just a cheap pulley after all! Also switched to a Continental Elite belt ( ), which seems a bit quieter than the OEM style that was on there before. |
