Default How hard is it to rebuild the front diff?

I need to repair the my front differential. I already paid a fortune to do the rear so I would like to try to do this. Im not a mechanic but I can figure things out. Is this just better done by a pro for the price?

I also want to get rid of the cv style front axels. What do I have to do for that and how hard is that?

I just set my dana 30 up with new gears. You will have to invest in a bearing puller for carrier bearings, got mine on eBay 250$ ,a dial indicator shim kit with new bearings 150$ and time. I got a used carrier and pinion with the ratio I needed to match the rear also. If you can find a used diff with what you need you can save time and money.. Unless you are going to set up a few diffs to recoupe the cost.

Maybe a write up? Or step by step?

The money spent on the needed tools and pullers would pay to have the job done correctly at a shop.

Busted's got it right. It takes finesse to do it properly and NOT done properly will destroy itself! Been there, done it!

You'd be better off staying with your CV axle shafts unless you're going to do serious off-roading. Your front driveshaft can be replaced by a double carden unit.
