Dear All,
I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee Limited 4L, V6 presently is auto 4x4. Petrol consumption is high and I wanted to modify it to manual. In order to use 2x4 in the city and 4x4 on hard terrain so that I could save petrol. How to modify my engine,please advise.

it won't help enough to offset the time of doing the job. i had a 4x4 zj with full time and i swapped in a t-case from a wrangler and used the output or input gear from the case i took out and the gas mileage did not improve. i could put it in 2 wheel drive though which was still nice but no gas saving at all

my 93 limited v8 with all time 4x4 gets better mileage than my friends 98 laredo inline 6 when its it 2x4. I dont know how it works out but it does

I doubt you'll save enough, (if any), to pay for the cost of the transfer case and accompanying changes to the shifter bezel. Not to mention the labor cost if you're not qualified to do it yourself.
