Let me start off by saying that I have owned two Jeeps in the past, A 91 cherokee limited, and a 96 cherokee classic but i have since sold both to get a car with better gas mileage and have hated myself for that decision ever since. I sold my car yesterday and decided to step up to the grand cherokee, preferably the v8.
Im looking at a 95 grand cherokee laredo. Here is the craigslist post, http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/1949659744.html. I went and looked at it tonight and it wasn't too bad. I am going to look at it again tomorrow with a friend who has more knowledge about v8s. I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers on good things to look out for? I checked oil, atf, belts, cooling system, listened for strange noises and checked for smells like coolant, all the normal stuff. Also, I was wondering about the price for the miles it has on it, 2900 seemed a little steep, as the interior is in pretty bad shape. I know the straight six will run forever but I know absolutely nothing about the v8.

Thanks in advance for the help and I look forward to contributing to the community!

The V8 is a proven engine and the same exact multi port fuel injected engine Dodge has used in trucks since 1994. The basic engine design has been around since the mid 60s, and the block is very strong because there is more nickle in it than a Chevy V8. The weak link in the Grand Cherokee with a V8 is the transfer case, it is an awd system. There is a 231j swap available so you can have part time 4wd.

ok cool. so there are no secret little things to check on these? there were no part time 4wd transfer cases available for 95? bummer, I loved part time when doing light wheeling in my xj's. Thanks for the help!
