Hi all, new member here, new to me jeep
I just bought this:
http://barney.gonzaga.edu/~snyder/jeep
Needs some things though but got it for 1250 so I'm not all that worried about it.
The big thing is that after it warms up and you start to hammer on it, the engine starts to pop and spit and has no power.
But you slowly accelerate to speed and all is fine.
Any ideas?

I have a buddy who just bought one like this and he is getting me sucked up into this new hobby. This won't be a daily driver for me for a while until I get all the bugs worked out.
As for gas mileage, I work 1.3 miles from my house, its not that huge of a deal for me at this time.

Hello all...
Thanks for the welcome.
Yup, thats next on the plan, doing a full tuneup with everything.
PLugs/wires/cap/rotor/pcv valve/oil filter/air filter. Anything else suggested?
I also need to drop the tank and replace the fuel sending unit (gas gauge not working), I wonder if I should replace the fuel pump too or is it too expensive to bother replacing?

Never dropped a tank but others say it is a pain so maybe that is something you need to decide once you get yours down or wait till it goes out and drop tank again. If you do,take and post pics.

I will do that (take pics). My buddy owns a small used car lot and said I was free to use his lift.
Will make working on it much easier than crawling underneath it!
Acutally does it have an access port that you can get from above? I know that my Chrysler and Nissan had access panels that allowed you to get at those parts from above.

Welcome!
Take a look at the IAC valve. It's easy to remove and clean.
ZJ fuel pumps and sending units are combined into one unit, they are expensive. The pump is located on the top of the tank. Dropping the tank isn't too hard. Run it as low on fuel as possible to make things easier when removing.

IAC valve, idle air control valve? Where would that be?
Thanks for the help. I'm going to buy all these new parts for the tune up today or tomorrow.
This weekend I shall go to my local pull and save junkyard and roam the jeep section (tons of cherokees, zero wranglers though) and see if I can find a jeep to trip of its sending unit/fuel pump assembly.
Also anyone know if the transfer cases that have more than the 4hi/neutural/4low settings are worth grabbing? Saw a few jeeps with those still in place and wondered if tahts a usable upgrade?

The IAC is attached to the throttle body.
This is the IAC valve.

It's at 12 o'clock in this picture.

Yes, you can swap in a different t-case. I swapped out the 249 in my ZJ for a 231.
