HELPPPPP coolant leak
:donatello:
So my jeep overheated today & I found this gem to be leaking coolant There is usually fluid that leaks out under my jeep but I figured it was from my AC I'm a noob, be nice https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...bae66e1746.jpg Any ideas? Failed water pump? |
Need more pics or info

Typically look higher up in the engine for a leak first as the coolant will leak down.

4.0 I6 - check for movement in the water pump pulley - common failure item.
With the engine stopped obviously. |
Water coming down the front of the engine is either a leaking gasket or a failed water pump. The water pump has a weep hole on the back, between the lower pipe and the engine block. It will alert you to a failing water pump early if you know to look for it. It usually runs down the lower hose first, but once it's pretty far gone it'll just spray everywhere back there.

All fixed!
I changed the water pump today and it's running great. Took me about three hours though, lol. No leaks so far and it's not over heating!
Thank you all for the replies! |
For future reference, the easiest way to get all the air out of the 4.0 is to take out the temp sensor behind the thermostat, then fill it until it runs out that hole. Replace the sensor and complete the fill. After starting, you should only need about a quart or 2 to top it off.

Ok, good to know thanks! I just ran the heat full blast, with the cap off and kept refilling it that way.
