Model: Grand Cherokee (ZJ)
Engine: 4.0L
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling 95 ZJ 4.0L
I have a 1995 ZJ Limited with a 4.0L that didn't come with a trailer hitch
The build sheet Chrysler shows
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
AHC Trailer Tow Prep Group
DMEP 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio
DRMP Dana 35C/194MM Rear Axle
LNJP Front Fog Lamps
SDAS Normal Duty Suspension
TBB Full Size Spare Tire
TBLS Inside Mounted Spare Tire
It also has an oem transmission oil cooler in front of the radiator.
The build information from https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing
also includes "9 Additional Gallons of Gas" which I don't believe to be true., The Fuel tank from fillings appears to be a stock 23 gallon.
So far I've figured that the AHC Trailer Tow Prep Group includes
DMEP 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio
Transmission oil cooler
Possibly wiring connections for a trailer hitch hidden inside behind the spare tire
I'm wondering what the Heavy Duty Engine Cooling from the build sheet means?
Does this mean installed is a heavy duty two row aluminum core Mopar radiator with metal tanks?
or something else?
As part of a recall the Jeep Dealership recently installed a new trailer hitch.
I may set it up for towing but would like to figure out what currently installed.

A number of tow packages also included a heavy duty 120 amp alternator and a “high temperature” power steering pump. I added an aftermarket auxiliary transmission cooler when preparing my WJ for towing, and may in the future consider upgrading to the heavy duty components, but right now the standard components are operating just fine, so I I’m going with what I have now.

The build sheet shows
BARS 90 Amp Alternator
BCES 600 Amp Maintenance Free Battery
I'm wondering about the radiator. After it quits raining I'll try to get a closer look at the radiator for part numbers and width to determine if it's a two row.
It didn't come with a tow hitch, only came with a AHC Trailer Tow Prep Group. Reading online I came across some post that mentions the
AHC Trailer Tow Prep Group as a transmission cooler, 3.73 axle gear and possibly trailer wire connectors located somewhere behind the spare tire
If a having a tow package and/or trailer hitch the build sheet would list that separately from a Trailer Tow Prep Group which only means it only preped but not yet setup for actual towing.
I'm not certain what is meant by "Heavy Duty Engine Cooling"
I know on my 98 XJ parts manual it list radiators with "Max Cooling" and without "Max Cooling"
Also some are listed as "Aluminum" and "Copper Brass"
"Max Cooling" means the radiator doesn't have a built-in transmission cooler even in an automatic they have removed the radiators transmission cooler (similar to a Jeep with a manual transmission) In an automatic with "Max Cooling" radiator, the transmission is cooled using an external transmission cooler.
Which I guess allows the radiator to perform more efficient cooling of the engine since there is no heat input to the radiator from the transmission lines
My ZJ's radiator doesn't appear to be "Max Cooling" I"m certain the last time looked at it that it includes oil lines from the transmission.
It does have an external transmission cooler that appears to be inline with the radiators transmission oil lines.
I'm wondering if the 95 ZJ's radiator is heavy duty two row aluminum core? as part of the AHC Trailer Tow Prep Group ?
The parts catalog I have for the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler 94-96 only list two radiators part numbers, one for an automatic another for a manual transmission. (nothing about max cooling, heavy duty, etc.)
RADIATOR AND RELATED PARTS SIX CYLINDER ENGINE ZJ, ZG BODY
13 RADIATOR
Auto. Trans. 5202 8379 1 1995-96
Manual Trans. 5202 8378 1 1995-96

5202 7823 1 w/Max Cooling

I looked under the hood and found a Mopar part number on the installed radiator
52028379 which appears to be a newer Mopar radiator with a two row aluminum core as the radiator appears to be thicker than a one row.
The tank appears and feels to be plastic. The tank materials appears to be thicker than a metal tank.
I also found from the oem parts manual two viscous fans.
5202 7824 1 CLUTCH, Fan, Viscous Cooling
5202 7823 1 w/Max Cooling
I'm uncertain which type of viscous fan I have.

I forgot to mention, look for a wire pigtail coming off the wire harness near the steering column, which is for connecting to a trailer brake controller. I don’t have the color scheme of the pigtail as my WJ is a base edition and didn’t come with that feature. I had to splice directly into a particular wire in the harness, I’d have to go back through the Prodigy BC installation schematic to remember which one it was.
