heater control valve location??

i'm highly suspicious that my heater control valve is malfunctioning and i'm trying to track it down. does anybody know the location of this on a 2000 grand cherokee wj with a 4.0 and manual heat controls?

I'm an XJ guy, but...
Late model XJ's don't have a heater control valve, the core is constantly supplied with coolant. The air through the core or A/C evaporator is controlled by a door in the heater housing.

I suspect your GC is built the same way.

So what is the problem you are experiencing?

well the problem is my heat doesn't come on as strong as it should. it's luke warm on my low settings and it feels colder the stronger the blower motor turns. my engine operating temp is perfect. the engine reaches temp properly and the gauge reaches between 200-210 degrees. i assume my heater core is good since i'm not leaking anywhere. i work at autozone so i looked up a heater control valve and we carry one for my make and model but i can't seem to find it on the truck, unless its under my dash with my heat/ ac unit. my repair manual is pretty vague as well.

I had a similiar problem with my 02 GC. Thought it was a blend door problem as is discussed all over theses Boards but when the dash was removed we found that the door on the blower assembly had broken off & was restricting airflow. The blower fan worked but we got very little air or very cool air in the winter.

Good Luck!!!

does the whole dash board have to come out to get to the heat/ ac unit?

I believe so. The dealer had to remove the entire dash to get at the fan door assembly. Part - $59.00, Labor $700 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yet Chrysler doesn't think they have a design problem.

When facing the front of your Jeep look on your left. See if the heater control valve is mounted on the firewall above where the heater hoses connect to the inlet and outlet on the firewall.

Yeah Mark! I almost got sucked into that one myself.

And Cherokeegirl, there is no heater control valve on a WJ.
