Unbolting the seat is easy getting the electrical plug undone was a little hard to do. You will need to use a small screw driver to release the plug. You can also just leave the seat in,but I would unbolt it at least.

Maybe you can help me out. I just went with a universal heating element. So, now I just have two wires to deal with. But I am unsure how to wire it into the 4 wire prong that went to the 2 elements that were in the seat cushion. May have been easier to just fix the old elements.

So you should only need to use the blk/orange wire and the black for ground. I would test those wires for 12volts. Hook up your two wires and see if you have heat.

I know this thread is old, but I'd like to say thanks for the info. I have a 2000 XJ limited with the flashing led on the drivers side heated seat switch. I followed the procedure listed in the link above and Presto... Warm again. Even though the jeep in the link is a '98 grand cherokee, the method translated to my xj perfectly. Thanks cherokee forum!
