Default grand cherokee ZJ laredo stereo replacement

im not sure if being a laredo model or not makes any difference, but i have a 96 grand cherokee with a cassette player.. and well, at this point i dont even use CDs anymore.. so im looking to replace it with a more modern unit with front USB/SD for MP3 playback, and satellite radio ready

my question is... the unit installed now is definitely not single DIN, and it doesnt really look to be double din, though someone here probably knows for sure.. is this some special form factor? or is it in fact a double din?.. if it is a special form factor, how would i adapt this to fit a single din unit?

Use a dask kit to mount your new head unit, a universal Chyrsler kit will work for you. Also use wire harness adaptors to plug into the existing factory harness. BestBuy or any stereo shop should have everything you need.

some vehicles use specialty units that require a form factor thats neither single, nor double din, i was wondering if anyone knows if the grand cherokee uses a true double din, or if its a specialty size?

I think it's DIN and a half.

I just took mine out of my 97 Grand Cherokee and it was quite a bit larger than my single din. What's the measurement for double vs single? I'll measure the stock one.. Mine was a cd/cassette combo though so it was probably larger than yours.

EDIT
CD cassette combo is definitely Double DIN

its a din and a half. just take the advice and get the dash kit. works perfect. if you want to fit a double din you have to do some custom work and cut out the vents and make a harness to hold it in. other than that just go with dash kit.
