Default Grand Cherokee - Water out of exhaust

So i have a 2000 Grand Cherokee I am trying to get started for the first time since i bought it. It has the 4.7L V8 motor. I hooked up a new battery to it, and it cranks very slowly. I crawled under it to look at the starter, and noticed coolant was leaking from a small hole right before the cat.

I am thinking this is not normal, and I have a blown head gasket, and water in one or two cylinders.

I would love some input on how to proceed, or if their is another solution to this problem.

Thanks.

So i really need some help.

I have water dripping out of my exhaust, 4 cylinders on the drivers side are full of water, but there is no water in the oil.

So would this be blown head gasket? Cracked Head? Or something else?

I have just never seen a blown head gasket without water in the oil.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

You can blow a headgasket without getting water in the oil just pull the head and go from their.

Water coming out of the exhaust is normal, it's a byproduct of combustion and from the chemical reaction that takes place in the catalytic converter. But since you say you have atleast 4cylinders full of water, chances are good it is blown.

Well the antifreeze is leaking out a small hole right before the cat. I am pretty confident that the head is blown.

I'm going to play around with it more tonight.

You may save yourself some huge headaches by replacing the whole engine, this one can have bent rods and other issues even after repairing the cylinder head problem.

So I am being told by several different mechanics that Chrysler updated the 4.7 in 2002 and did away with the head problems and just overall a much better motor. So I am thinking I will begin the search for a 2002 or newer engine, and then not have to worry about it.

Any input on where to find one? I've called all the local junk yards and no one has one.

http://www.jasperengines.com/ for a reman. Most wrecking yards belong to a service that locates parts from all over.

If you are willing to take a chance on a boneyard engine, try searching on www.car-part.com , you can narrow it down by year, make, and even location.
