Grand Cherokee Shutdown
I have a friend that owns a '96 Grand Cherokee with a 5.7 Hemi engine. He was driving down the highway and accelerated the vehicle to pass another. When the Jeep went back to Overdrive, it started sputtering and shut down. He was unable to restart it and had it towed home. Any inputs?

5.2 is not a Hemi, but anyway, he needs to check for spark. No spark could be caused by a bad crank sensor, cam sensor, coil, open circuit in the primary ignition, or a bad PCM.

You checked for spark at the plug?
If you have spark, try holding the gas pedal to the floor to clear out the excess fuel in the cylinders (flooded)

It was checked at the end of the wire going to the distributor cap. I'm not sure if he checked the spark at each individual wire; I do know that he changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and the distributor cap.
