if cv axle is bad when hearing the noise on driver side and turning left the cv axle could make the jeep front endn go up down a little while making a clunking noise and some clicking noise in play, if this happens you need new cv axle really easy to replace i didit my self when this happened to mine.

My 2000 WJ did this same sort of thing and it was a mystery. Although, mine also had a little shudder to it too. Turns out changing the transfer case fluid fixed it. Basically (in my case) the Quadradrive transfer case clutch is getting stuck at low speed tight turns, where it should release on tight maneuvers to let the tires rotate at different speeds. Simply changing the transfer case fluid popped mine free and got rid of the noise and shudder. Mine sounded like it was coming from up front as well, but this fixed it.

well its been a few days since i changed the differential fluid in the front and rear, and the noise is pretty much gone. I heard it happen only once, and even then it was very quiet. So i guess the change of fluid and adding limited slip additive worked pretty well

I know this thread is pretty much closed, but I just wanted to add...

I have the exact same problem with my 99 GC. Having just looked over its service history, I just found that one month before I bought it in 2008, it was flagged up on its MOT (the yearly service the car has to pass to stay on the road in the UK) with - N/S front ball joint has slight play.

From when this problem started, I always thought it was from the n/s, so when I get this checked out I'll post an update.

Thought it was worth mentioning as a few people have this problem and the OP did say he heard it again since replacing the oils.

MIne has the same problem. it makes a rubbing noise when you make a sharp turn. And it did nail a curb once when i was trying to make a U turn... Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

i changed the differential fluid in the front and rear differentials and then added limited slip additive to them. That day i heard the sound after i changed the fluid but since then i havent heard the sound once. Its been a couple weeks.

mine does the same thing cant find it I thought it might be a power steering thing but no leaks and the fluid is good I was hoping you got the answer here

Just took mine to a Jeep specialist..which was lucky as the filler bolt was seized and it took nearly 3 hours to get it off...anyway...They have replaced the transfer case oil (£85) but I still get the noise when turning...it has made a difference as it now happens at different points of the turn, but I have only done a few miles so i'm thinking it might need to work its way in more!?

If any of you have the quadra-drive all time 4wd like I do on my '99 Limited then it is simply a function of the vehicle being in 4wd at all times. I checked with a mechanic and dealership and both said there was no issue and that is was a normal occurrence. I have had mine for 6 years and have never had any issues due to the noise just more of an annoyance in parking lots but if you were to take any other suv/truck and place it in 4wd and demand a sharp low-speed turn the same noise would occur.

Yeah Grand99,
After changing the fluid in my differentials it still made the sound. But after driving for awhile the sound went away, so it might just need to be broken in a little

Final post on this..I promise!

To all those who have this problem...strange whining noise and vibration when turning left, usually on full lock...Get your transfer case oil changed!

I've now only done about 20 miles on the new oil and the noise has all but gone! Felt a small vibration earlier, but it was only just noticable!

The sound heard from the original posted video, it is def the front differential. I had the same sound and come to find out, when I had the differential serviced a few months earlier, they did not add the friction modifier.Added the required amount and 2 miles later the sound was gone.
