Exclamation GC boils over into coolant resorvoir while showing cool temp

After I fixed the fuel problem on my '93 GC, I started driving it around the neighborhood, constantly looking at temp to make sure it wasn't overheating, and then I started smelling coolant. So I stopped the car, got out, and the coolant resorvoir was boiling over, and coolant was all over the ground It recently had a cracked head replaced, along w/ head gasket. The weird thing is, is that the temp guage shows it's under 100 degrees, and then it boils over like it's hot. Could the guage malfunctioning??

BTW, there is no water in the oil, no smoke blowing out, no signs of a bad/blown gasket/head/block, etc...

Any suggestions??? Help is MUCH appreciated!!!

P.S. It's the 4.0 Liter 6 cylinder engine, w/ 4WD.

Thanks in advance.

For a test, I would hook up manual temp gauge. Check the radiator cap( inside valve spring loaded). I would replace the thermostat.

You may have had an air pocket at where the temp sender is positioned. X2 with a new T-stat.

Thanks for the responses! Turned out the thermostat was the problem!
