first time ZJ buyer help!
Looking to buy my first ZJ.. It's a 93 5.2 limited. The owner says the tranny seems to go into limp mode when it warms up. I figure if all else fails I can get a new tranny and still be ahead because it's a good price and a clean ZJ!
My biggest question is what should I look for on it? I don't know much about the 5.2 ZJ or ZJ in general.

Old fart with a wrench
The 5.2 is a Dodge 318 cu. in. motor and is pretty strong. As near as I can tell, it's a 42RH transmission and, again, is a good unit. You probably have a bad solenoid in it. Watch for rust around the control arm mounts on the frame. My '97 started tearing them out. If the transfer case shift lever just has 4WD, neutral, and 4WD lo, you have the NP/249 constant 4WD t/case.
