Exhaust route
I have a 95 grand Cherokee that's completely stock.I'm wondering what's the best place for the exhaust to exit so water/mud doesn't get in ? Right now its hanging in the middle .should I exit it by the rear tire? Should I go straight to the back like the factory .just looking for the best place to route it.further mods are to be coil spacers and rear coil springs from a ford.doing a budget lift so I can run 31s .then dual batteries for added lights

Exhausting under the vehicle is dangerous because of vapor entry into the passenger compartment. Also, exiting under the rear bumper is okay IF your hatch is well sealed. The best place is out the side behind the rear tire, but that puts it in line with anything thrown by the tire. Your choice.

Putting it out the side in front of the tire is asking to crush it, it would have to sit below the frame rail. It would get ripped off within minutes of me going offroad

Just what I was going to say, wiggles. You can get it higher behind the tire and unless you back into a rock, it should be safe.

Exhaust to the side allows gases to blow away and not swirl behind the vehicle when driving. As a boy, my dad and I drove a load of lumber home in a station wagon with the tailgate down. We almost passed out. The tailpipe had been replaced with a sedan pipe and exited out the back. On a long trip, you may not even smell it and it will kill you. Likewise, make sure your rear hatch is not rotted if you exhaust out the back.
Several years ago, my company's maintainence supervisor lost his son and his buddy because they were parked and trying to stay warm in a TJ without a shift boot on the tranny. They both fell asleep and died from monoxide poisoning. They had just got it back together in time to go hunting and didn't put the boot on the shifter.
It may not be "macho" to worry about your exhaust system, but you should.

Here's the skinny on monoxide poisoning. First is a wicked headache, then dissorientation and loss of coordination, then sleepiness and death.
If exposed to monoxide, get to fresh air and breath deeply. You'll probably feel cold and shaky. Take a hot shower. If these feelings continue for more than 2 hours, get to the ER. Oxygen helps, if you have access to it. I once asked a doctor about using oxygen from a torch tank in an emergency and he told me it's the same, just not filtered and medically pure. Just be sure to only bleed it slowly at no pressure. He told me of a case in which a man's life was saved with this method after a heart attack, before the EMS got there.
Monoxide is nothing to mess around with. It attaches to red blood cells and blocks absorbsion of oxygen in the blood. It takes a long while to turn into CO2 and be eliminated from the system. These damaged cells must be removed from your body before you're 100% again. Exersize helps, but you'll probably tire easily.
My point is be careful. If you smell exhaust, you're being exposed to monoxide. If you smoke, you can be overcome more easily.

You better be sure water isn't getting in through your intake though. If water is getting through your intake its best to just turn her off til you can get out of the pool and change that oil.
