"Er" msg in the Temp control Window

Engine: 5.2 liter
"Er" msg in the Temp control Window
!995 GC Limited, 5.2 liter AWD. Getting a Er displayed in the Temp display window when I first start the vehicle, then goes out. A/C works sometimes and heat doesn't work. Replace the Temp control panel - no change. Any sugestions?

The system has a self-diagnostic function built into it. I'll send you a Private Message explaining the procedure w/pics including the codes.
