EGR valve
Can someone give me some symptoms of a bad EGR valve in a 1996 Grand Cherokee 4.0
|
My understanding is that the non-Renix 4.0 does NOT have an EGR.
http://www.allpar.com/mopar/40.html Also my 91-93 Mopar Jeep Parts manual does not show an EGR for the 4.0. |
Mine is a 1996 and when it was checked on a computer about a month ago it said something about the EGR valve
|
No EGR on a 1996 4.0.
|
Let me clarify... the non-Renix 4.0 engines are 91+ models.

OH GOD, PLEEEEASE tell me my 1995 4.0 DOES NOT have one of those horrible things!!!
Dealing with exhaust gas recirculation in heavy trucks has been one terrible nightmare after another. Supposedly, the guy who invented the thing said it was the worst thing in the world that could be done to a diesel engine. Judging from the problems the trucking industry has had with those things, I believe that. It's why I'm piecing together my old '96 Caterpillar engine powered Freightliner. I'm NOT wanting to experience the financial woes my buddies have with that idiotic technology! Please tell me I don't have that. My diesel Ford pickup has had it's EGR valve removed. If my Jeep has one, the EGR valve will be removed or the Jeep will be sold and I'll buy one that doesn't have it! I really hate EGR!!!!!!! |
Paddle....you don't have an EGR.
Love your XJ that much more now don't you? :) |
If it doesn't have an EGR why is the computer telling me something about the EGR

Who checked it and what was the code? |
I was told that once, then I figured out the definition was incorrect for the Jeep.

Without knowing the code I would bet it is probably a generic code and the EGR is a typical problem for most vehicles. If the code is generic across multiple vehicles then those vehicles that do not have the 4.0 liter would have the EGR. For example a Grand with the 5.2 would have the EGR.

EGR does not mean a bad valve rather a problem in the exhaust gas recirculating circuit
